The following tips can help you build a motivated and connected staff.

• Have a meeting about what stresses them out and seek answers to relieve their stress.

• Communicate exactly what is expected from each person and from each other.

• Counsel your employees through troubling times and rough spots. No one can truly keep their home life at home.

• Shield good employees from any negative behavior from others and never tolerate negative behavior from your staff.

• Let your staff know that they can come to talk to you and you will not be judgmental.

• Let them all know you will protect them.

• Bring out the best in each person by utilizing any talents they may have to better your center.

Most of all, make sure that each person feels appreciated and needed.

There is nothing more frustrating to a center owner than to have dissension amongst the staff. Stop it even before it has a chance to start. Practice camaraderie by incorporating it into the culture of your center. Use your staff meetings to team build. Use fun motivational games and activities throughout the year. Talk about organization skills, and offer continuing education courses helps teachers to handle difficult situations in their classroom. Find workshops and articles on subjects such as how to handle fussy babies and or tantrums and biting.
