Drawbacks of Home Daycare Settings
The drawback to home daycare is that it can be under-regulated in some states. Look into the requirements in your state and try to find one that has enough children to be visited by regulating officials on occasion. Regularly drop in unannounced at various times throughout the day as well to see the kind of care being offered throughout the day. Find out which rooms in the home the children are allowed to enter and check those rooms thoroughly for cleanliness and safety hazards. Also find out where and on what surface the children sleep. They should not be sharing a bed or sleeping on the hard floor. Each child should have some sort of cot or mat that is placed on the floor in an area of the home where the caregiver can see them.
Another drawback to this kind of care is that it may not offer the flexibility of hours or days you need. It is often run by one person, so he/she may decide to close for a holiday on which you have to work and you’ll have to find other care.

Benefits of Home Daycare Settings

Another option is a home daycare setting. This allows children to interact with a variety of age groups and provides family-style care. Children in this type of setting tend to have flexibility to do what they want when they want; not as much as with a nanny, but more so than large group care. Home daycare can also be more individualized to your child and offer stability of care in that the same person will be caring for your child everyday. You’ll find your child will develop strong bonds with both the caregiver and the other children with whom they are cared for as this small group care lends itself to close social interactions.
