Eat and drink in moderation. Portions of meat should remain less than 90 grams per serving.

Always eat regularly and avoid “skipping” meals. Be aware that snacks between meals also must be eaten in moderation and preferably, be fruit or other nutritious foods.

Watch food ingredients carefully. Many people enjoy eating fatty foods, salty foods or foods that contain a lot of sugar. Be vigilant and eat these foods in moderation. Low-fat dairy products and lean meats can help reduce fat intake.

Create healthy food patterns. If your “menu” for the day includes fried chicken, balance the chicken with steamed vegetables and fruit and not other fatty foods such as French Fried potatoes.

Record your habits. If you want to change your diet to improve your health monitor what you eat on a daily basis. Write down everything you eat for about one week and evaluate the results. Include butter on bread, sauces and so forth used on salads. Are you getting enough of the four major food groups as a regular pattern?

Most health experts recommend that we eat a balanced diet that includes moderation and variety. The key factor is not to get too many calories or too much of any one nutrient. The list below is the Top Ten Ways to Stay Healthy by Eating Right.

Eating a variety of nutrient rich foods is recommended first. Why? People need more than forty different nutrients and not one single food contains all forty. Each person’s daily diet should include whole grain or bread, fruit, vegetables, dairy products, as well as protein foods such as meat, poultry or fish.

Eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and whole grain foods.

Too much body fat can increase the cases of high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer and other afflictions.
